Introduction

Ferrocement International Network-Pakistan was established in the Department of Civil Engineering in 1990. FIN has been working under the International Ferrocement Information Centre (IFIC) of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in facilitating and accelerating the information flow regarding Ferrocement. Since then FIN has been acting as a clearinghouse for local Ferrocement publications and has been disseminating information on research work in this field.

Activities

Since its inception FIN (Pakistan) has been actively engaged in many activities inside and outside Pakistan. The activities range from publishing articles in national newspapers and technical journals, conducting workshops, lectures and on site trasference of related knowledge, participation in exhibitions and seminars.

However, the core activities of FIN are:

Collecting information on ferrocement within the country.
Acting as a clearing house for local ferrocement publications.
Offering user orientation in ferrocement, i.e. introduce advantages of ferrocement , familiarize users with its applications, etc.
Conducting training courses at the local level in ferrocement use.

Ferrocement Park

In September, 1992, a group of students under the supervision of Prof. Dr. S. F.A.Rafeeqi created a small park in the Department of Civil Engineering. All structures in the park from bench, table and flower bowl to water tank are made from ferrocement. This project occupies a centre stage in the department and advocates the usefulness of ferrocement and its induction as a low cost construction material.
