The Department of Civil Engineering has the honour to be the first department of the University to offer Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering discipline since 1979. Presently, the programme is carried out as;

Masters in Civil Engineering by Course Work
Master of Engineering (M.Engg.) programme is being conducted in the evening to cater the demands of working professionals. The students enrolling in the evening programmes come from a variety of professional backgrounds and establishments, particularly government and semi-government organisations, as well as practicing engineers from private sector. The postgraduate programme which is stretched over 2½ years provides specialisation in the following areas:

Transportaion Engineering
General Scheme of Studies
The masters taught programme (by course work) is based on Semester system. The minimum duration of the programme is 30 months having 5 equal semesters and the maximum time allowed for completion of all requirement shall not exceed 5 years. The students are expected to complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of instructional course work while maximum of 6 credit hours is allowed per semester and a minimum of 48 lecture hours as prescribed for each taught course.
Master of Engineering by Research
As the department strengthened academically and infrastructure developed with time, need for enhanced research capabilities grew urging to nurture research within the academic framework. University aims to project laboratory-based research facilitating indigenous research development. M.Engg. through research was offered for the first time as a full time course in 1999 awarding the degree in the following fields of specialisation:

General Scheme of Research
Master of Engineering by Research is a daytime programme having minimum two-year supervised study period that may be extended to a maximum of four years towards successful completion of all requirements and award of the Masters Degree. Under the programme student may also be required to undertake certain number of instructional course work depending upon the nature and area of specific research being carried out by the student.
