Welcome Address By Chairman

I have great pleasure in writing this welcome address as the first Chairman of the newly established Department of Urban and Infrastructure Engineering. With its futuristic vision and in its zeal to maintain the renowned position it enjoys in institutions of higher learning, NED University has dwelled upon addressing the emerging issues of Infrastructure engineering emanating as the effect of large scale urbanization. BE(Urban Engineering), a four years Bachelors degree programme, was initiated at the turn of the millennium (year 2001), initially administered by Department of Civil Engineering. While the programme got maturity and received Pakistan Engineering Council accreditation, the Department of Urban and Infrastructure Engineering was formed to take it further on.

The prospects of BE Urban engineering programme are bright. We may speak of good placements of graduates from the pass-out batches. These placements are in organizations both within the local consulting and construction industry as well as in the international markets. The areas of engross of our graduates include Transportation Engineering, Structural Engineering Geotechnical Engineering, Traffic Modeling, Construction and Project Management, Water Resource Engineering and Management.

Continuing with efforts to maintain the quality of education and research, the Department places high emphasis on active coordination with various stake-holders who play vital role in development and sustainability of infrastructure. The linkage partners include local government, international universities and centres of excellence. Alongside, the Department vigorously pursues the task of value addition to both the faculty and the students in order to provide leadership in the field of Urban and Infrastructure Engineering.
