PVT Laboratory

The main function of this laboratory is to study the behavior of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon fluids, besides basic and applied research in this area. The facility would be capable of the following.

  • Complete pressure-volume-temperature analysis of system such as bottom-hole or recombined samples of crude and natural gases. These analysis result in the determination of dew point pressure, & densities.
  • Determination of impurities such as hydrogen sulphide & carbon dioxide in crude oil & natural gas.
  • To determine the specific gravity of a gas.
  • To determine the specific gravity of a liquid.
  • To determine the dynamic viscosity of a fluid at different temperature.
  • To determine the dynamic viscosity of fluid at elevated pressures.
  • To determine the surface and interfacial tensions of two liquid samples
  • To determine the gas compressibility (Z. factor) of a gas sample as a function of pressure.
  • To determine the bubble point of a crude oil sample at a given temperature.
  • To determine the thermal expansion and compressibility of a crude oil sample.
  • To determine the gas-oil ratio and oil formation volume factor of an oil sample.
  • Differential liberation of an oil gas mixture.
