The bilingual literary recital contest, held on the 16th of March 2010, was one of the most awaited & popular events of the year 2010 at NED. Due to its huge success in 2009, the number of applicants had tripled compared to the previous year, & the number of participants doubled.
Here is how the format of the contest works:
There are 4 categories to choose from: English Poetry, Urdu Poetry, English Prose, and Urdu Prose. After auditioning all the applicants, two students are selected from each department, one for English Poetry/Prose, and one for Urdu Poetry/Prose.
Since it is a recital, students have to recite from the published works of well known authors & writers.
On the day of the contest, after hearing all the participants, the judges select two winners form each category, & the department with the highest total score bags the trophy.
This year, the organizers had the immense privilege of having two of the most highly skilled & experienced professionals in the field of language in Pakistan as the judges:
- Dr. Hina Hussain Kazmi (Program Manager- EDLINKS Project, USAID).
- Prof. Saira N. Ibrahim: (Dept. of Management Sciences, National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, FAST-NU, Karachi).
And the Chief Guest, one of the most brilliant & distinguished masterminds of the country: Professor Doctor Sahibzada Farooq Ahmad Rafeeqi; Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering & Architecture at NED University of Engineering & Technology. Even though he was bound by an extremely tight schedule, he still managed to take out time for what he described as one of the most prestigious events of the year.
