Introduction

The beautiful blooming flowers, perfumed air and splendid colors ushered in the King of all seasons. Spring is a season of growth, renewal and pure magnificence. The freshness of the spring flowers was being reflected on the faces of the students of NED, at the 4th spring festival on 24th February, 2012. Commenced by the inauguration of the event by our graceful Vice Chancellor, Engr. Abul Kalam, the ebullient event shot off with a roar.

Event details

Organized with the collaboration of MOSAIC, LPS, Humanities and the CSA Department; the year’s most awaited event came back bigger and better than ever. A cascade of students from every department came pouring in, to attend the spring festival, dressed in colorful and vibrant clothes, complementing the colors of spring. Inside the canopy, the stage stood tall in the middle with the words “Spring Festival 2012” surrounded by all sides with bouquet of flowers, stealing colors from the whole spectrum of the rainbow, signifying the beauty of the season.

Highlights of the student stalls

An array of stalls was set up by the students, along the perimeter of the canopy.

There were food stalls offering delicious and delightful cuisines from all around the globe, ranging from Pakistani Gol Gappay to Italian Pizza to Arabian Shawarma, in addition to ice creams, shakes and juices. 

Various stalls sold jewelry, henna cones and other memorabilia.

Entertainment stalls were the center of attention, offering games, fierce one-on-one competitions, and gifts and prizes on completing different types of challenges and quizzes.

Mr. and Mrs. Vice Chancellor strolled through the festival and appreciated the efforts of the students and organizers. Special recognition was given to the innovative and creative stall Rang-e-Pakistan, representing the love of the students towards the culture of Pakistan.

Celebrity guests and entertainment

Throughout the event, different performances were put on for the entertainment of the attendees. This included the long awaited NED Idol, where the students got up on stage to exhibit their singing talents. This year’s celebrity guests included Farhan Qureshi from the AAG TV hit‘ Dreamers’, one of the pioneers of Pakistani pop, Muhammad Ali Shaikhi and the mellifluent wonder, Ali Khan.

Finally, Izterab, the rock band of NED, stole the spotlight with their show stopping performance.

Conclusion

Owing to the nonstop efforts of the faculty members and the student organizers, the event was a success and super hit. The happiness and joy evident from the faces of the attendees was enough proof of the triumphant event. All in all, the event is sure to go down in the history of NED as the best one.
