The NED University Alumni Network (NEDAN) was formed in 2004 as a network for encouraging promotion of alumni related activities. This forum enabled graduates of the former College as well as of the University to initiate their support and activities related to Student welfare, Academics and Research. These activities have since been extended to focus on alumni relations and their efforts in support of the University. Alumni interest and goodwill has been encouraged resulting in development of intellectual and emotional ties between members and their University. However the present setup now requires being ‘formalized’ and strengthened in order to ensure success of activities of alumni in different parts of the world and specifically in the Western Hemisphere.
The Alumni Office being directly responsible to the Pro-Vice Chancellor will provide range of benefits and services for alumni; cultivate interaction between Alumni. The Office intends bringing all Alumni activities under one umbrella covering all former students and individuals associated with NED University/College and connecting them in effective relationship amongst its members.
To extend the spirit of NEDAN, one additional category of Friends of Alumni has been included in the Network in addition to Alumni (only former graduates).
The Registrar of the University has been instructed to register Alumni and develop an effective friendly interface on the Alumni Network webpage.
Registration to NEDAN is open to all Alumni of NED UET / College FREE of charge. After registration you will become an Associate member of NEDAN.
Friends of NEDAN will enjoy the same benefits as the annual members of NEDAN. They will include the alumni of Institutions affiliated with NED University, individuals who have supported the University in various positions – for example non-engineering faculty members, prominent members of the civil society, philanthropists and other corporate entities.
The Governing Body shall comprise
of members of NEDAN who are nominated as members of Governing
Body for a period of three years with effect from 1st January 2010.
of the University will be the Secretary of the Body.
NED University was established in
1977 by the Development Grant offered by the Government of Pakistan. During
two following decades there was no substantial development allocation
for the University. However in 2005, NED University was promised a large
development amounting to about Rs 3 billion. However from the inception
University had an apprehension that while the development grant might be
provided as promised, recurring grants to sustain working of the University
and also of smaller projects would have to be supported by University generated
funds. The option of increasing fee considerably, as adopted by some other
teaching institutions especially in the private sector, was never considered and is unlikely ever to be considered even in the near future.
Initially the donations towards the endowment fund would be deposited in one separate NEDAN deposit account but would not be utilised until the amount reaches 20 Million Rupees. The amount would then be invested and only profit gained there from would be used to fund different projects.
The Mechanism of Fund: The fund would be handled by the Executive Body to support projects approved only by the Governing Body.
fund would generally support projects related to students & academic
facilities - essential feature in each case being improvement of the University
as well as sustainability of the expansion already undergone
in the current decade. The fund would also provide flexibility for encouraging
new ideas for furthur expansion of the University and projects concentration
