Abstract:
This paper presents the details of an experimental study which was conducted to investigate the impact of adding polypropylene (PP) fibres on the performance of self-compacting concrete (SCC) containing marble powder. Fresh state properties were studied by conducting slump flow time (T500), slump flow diameter, V-funnel and L-box tests. Compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and water permeation property of concrete were determined in hardened state. The results indicated that the workability of SCC deteriorated with increase in PP fibre contents. Compressive strength and water permeation property of concrete mixtures were not influenced significantly by addition of PP fibres. The addition of PP fibres improved splitting tensile strength and flexural strength by seventeen and ten percent, respectively, compared to the control concrete specimens. Test results showed that polypropylene fibres and marble powder can successfully be used in production of SCC.
