Gaj (Traditional Embroidered Blouse)

Location(s): Tabho Meghwar and Koonbho Colony, Mithi

Gaj/Kanchro is an embroidered backless shirt with short or long sleeves, traditionally worn by Thari women. A gaj is made of cotton fabric with a thin lining inside and fully embroidered with two types of stitches namely katcho bharat (light embroidery) and pakko bharat (dense embroidery). Nearly every girl in Tharparkar receives gaj in her dowry.
