Shikarpoor Project 2016

Under the banner of Shikarpoor Project 2016, HC-DAPNED in collaboration with World Monuments Fund (WMF) and Endowment Fund Trust for Preservation of Heritage of Sindh (EFT) organized a series of activities during January-February 2016 engaging community participation and encouraging heritage property owners towards better preservation of their homes.

The Shikarpoor Project 2016 had three components:

1) 'Heritage Property Owners Interactive Workshop' solely sponsored by World Monuments Fund, was designed as a ten days long architectural documentation exercise involving heritage property owners, in co-operation with architecture students from DAPNED - recording direct inputs on state of conservation and maintenance challenges of their properties.

2) 'Launching of 'Heritage Plaques Program' to enhance visibility and publicize recognition of enlisted properties for general public.

3) 'Heritage Watch Day' event for raising public awareness'; and bringing together various stakeholders to engage in discussions seeking directions for betterment of city's heritage and its associated communities.

Note: The preparatory ground work for various components of Shikarpoor Project 2016 were developed during May-November 2015 as part of a Post-Doc Fellowship opportunity received by Prof. Dr. Anila Naeem from Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) and undertaken at the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation (RLICC), KU Leuven.
